Introduction
Students specialising in classical singing acquire comprehensive professional training and general education in music. Students learn solo and ensemble singing, speech techniques, acting and stage movement. Stage experience is acquired through musical performances.
In the spring semester of 2015/2016, the interschool competition was relaunched. Masterclasses and consultations are held regularly. Since 2001, Professor Eva Märtson from Germany has been a frequent guest, visiting almost every year.
Our students have found opportunities in the theatre Vanemuine both during their studies and after graduation. After graduation, students have also secured employment at the Estonian National Opera, the Estonian National Male Choir and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. In the Department of Classical Singing, students are prepared to pursue further studies at a higher music school or work as a soloist, choir singer, teacher or in other related fields. Graduates can continue their studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre or other higher music schools worldwide.
Studies conclude with a classical singing vocational examination. The final examinations in harmony and solfeggio serve as entrance examinations for the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Graduates receive the fourth qualification level instrumentalist profession.
Students of the piano or organ speciality must complete the instrumentalist curriculum.
